Execution by Hunger: the Unknown Genocide of the Ukrainians Exhibition Prepared by Ukraine 3000 Fund Unveiled in Washington

21 February 2008 17:06

February 20, 2008, Head of the Supervisory Board of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund Kateryna Yushchenko unveiled in Washington the Execution by Hunger: Unknown Genocide of the Ukrainians exhibition prepared by the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund. The event hosted by the Embassy of Ukraine was attended by representatives of the Congress, State Department, leading members of Ukrainian public organizations in the US, historians, and scholars.

“We are grateful to those who have been making efforts for many years to reveal to the world the truth about the scale of the Holodomor famine,” Mrs. Kateryna said addressing the visitors of the exhibition. She also spoke about the events dedicated to the 75th anniversary of Holodomor, in part, the international conference scheduled for late November 2008 in Kyiv.

At the presentation, the US citizens contributing into the popularization of the truth about Holodomor were decorated with state awards of Ukraine. Head of the Ukrainian Genocide Famine Foundation - USA Nicholas Mishchenko received the For Service order, Third Degree; Head of the Ukrainian National Women's League of America Iryna Kurowyckyj and Prof. of History at the University of Rhode Island Cheryl Madden – the Order of Princess Olha, Third Degree. Another For Service order, Third Degree was awarded to Congressman and Member of the House of Representatives Sander Levin.

The Execution by Hunger: Unknown Genocide of the Ukrainians exhibition has already been presented in Brussels, Berlin, Geneva, and all Ukraine’s oblasts. The special feature of this exhibition is that archive documents on this horrible crime of the totalitarian regime are corroborated by witness accounts of the Manmade Famine survivors.

The exhibition is divided into four thematic parts. The first part, Ukraine before the Famine, showcases Ukraine’s natural wealth to show the manmade nature of the famine. The second part narrates about the causes and reasons for the famine, the major one being Stalin’s and his accomplices’ desire to destroy the Ukrainians’ national spirit. The third part reveals the mechanism of Holodomor, and the fourth – describes the international recognition of this tragedy of the Ukrainian people.

The visitors took a tour of the exhibition and discussed joint plans to commemorate Holodomor victims in 2008.

The Ukraine 3000 Fund representatives, headed by Head of the Supervisory Board of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund Kateryna Yushchenko, are staying in the United States for a working visit. February 19 they met with President and CEO of the National Association of Children’s Hospitals and Related Institutions Lawrence McAndrews and US Secretary of Health and Human Services Michael Leavitt. Mrs. Yushchenko also attended the memorial service for Lev Dobriansky, met with Georgetown University President Dr. John DeGioia and the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America leaders and Ukrainian community representatives. Also February 19, Head of the Board of Directors of the Children's Hospital of the Future Charitable Fund Vira Pavliuk visited the Emory University of Atlanta School of Medicine.

February 20, Mrs. Yushchenko met with National Geographic Society representatives and took part in a meeting between representatives of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund, Ministry for Healthcare of Ukraine, and the Emory University of Atlanta School of Medicine.
