
Kateryna Yushchenko Meets with Eva Louise Koehler

February 12, 2008, a meeting took place in Berlin between wife of the President of Ukraine, Head of the Supervisory Board of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund Kateryna Yushchenko, and wife of the President of the Federal Republic of Germany Eva Louise Koehler.
The major topic under discussion was medical projects carried out by the organizations headed by Mrs. Yushchenko and Mrs. Koehler. Mrs. Yushchenko described Ukraine 3000 Fund’s medical programs: The Children’s Hospital of the Future, Joy of the Childhood: Free Movements, and Hospital to Hospital. She said that in course of her working trip to Germany she was planning to visit one of its leading children’s hospitals and familiarize herself with its work.
In her turn, Mrs. Koehler spoke about her fight against AIDS. She has been working on this issue for many years, helping HIV-positive people in many countries, including Ukraine.
Mrs. Yushchenko also told Mrs. Koehler about the History Lessons: Manmade Famine of 1932-1933 program, in part, about many countries recognizing the Famine as genocide against the Ukrainian people. She also spoke about the major goal of her visit to Germany – attending the Berlin International Film Festival, and the work of the Ukrainian Cinema Foundation.
Earlier Mrs. Yushchenko and Mrs. Koehler have held a series of meetings and working trips. In September 2006 they went to Odesa, visiting a kindergarten for HIV-positive children and the Way Home shelter for the homeless. Besides, in June 2007 the wives of the presidents of Ukraine and Germany took part in the Professional Mothers international conference organized by wife of the President of Poland Maria Kaszynska.
Mrs. Yushchenko and Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund members are on a working trip to Berlin, taking part in the events of the 58th Berlin International Film Festival. February 11 they took part in the Cinema for Peace reception, and February 12 visited the European Film Market and met with the Cannes Film Festival leaders and director of the International Federation of Film Producers, and Berlin Film Festival director.
