
Kateryna Yushchenko Meets with Cannes Film Market Director Miriam Arab and Cannes Film Festival Artistic Director Thierry Fremaux

February 12, 2008, Head of the Supervisory Board of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund Kateryna Yushchenko met with Cannes Film Market Director Miriam Arab and Cannes Film Festival Artistic Director Thierry Fremaux. Among other participants of the meeting were Ukraine’s Minister for Culture Vasyl Vovkun, Director of the Ukrainian Cinema Foundation Andriy Khalpakhchi, and Ukraine 3000 Fund representatives..
The major topic for the discussion was Ukraine’s participation in the Cannes Film Festival and Film Market. This year Ukraine will have its own pavilion at the festival. So, the participants of the meeting discussed a serried of events aimed at its promotion. Besides, the aprties discussed the possibility of including a retrospect of Ukrainian film classics into the official program of the Cannes Festival.
Mrs. Yushchenko described in brief the major priorities of the Ukrainian Cinema Foundation, in part, events aimed at promoting Ukrainian cinema at international festivals, organizing Ukrainian cinema weeks abroad, carrying out trainings for young directors.
February 11, 2008, Mrs. Yushchenko also took part in the Cinema for Peace reception, international initiative involving cinema stars, celebrities, and human rights champions. The reception is held annually at the Berlin Film Festival, presenting short documentaries dedicated to humanism, tolerance, fighting war, terrorism, and humanitarian disasters.
Mrs. Yushchenko and Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund members are taking part in the events of the 58th Berlin International Film Festival. Earlier they have taken part in the European Film Market.
