February 6, 2008, Head of the Board of Directors of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund Oleksandr Maksymchuk took part in the Social Changes Philanthropy Business Leaders Seminar. This event, continuing the discussion on corporative social responsibility launched by the UN Global Initiative in April 2007, was organized by the Ukrainian Civil Action Network (UCAN) project and For Ukraine Foundation.
Mr. Maksymchuk red out an address from Head of the Supervisory Board of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund Kateryna Yushchenko to the participants of the workshop. “I am glad to see the discussion of philanthropy and socially responsible business started in Ukraine, as well as Ukrainian business representatives addressing social issues more often,” the address reads. “We can see this trend all over the world, with business leaders from various countries broadly discussing social issues at leading economic forums. The present meeting is a graphic evidence of the fact that Ukrainian businesspeople also realize that without support for the private initiative and good will of conscious citizens no acute social problem in the areas of medicine, culture, education, ecology, etc. would be solved.”
Among other participants of the event were founder and former director of the Triangle Community Foundation Shannon St. John, representative of the European Venture Philanthropy Association Rob John, Institute for Sustainable Communities country director for Ukraine Barbara Felitti, director of the Corporative Social Responsibility Development Center Maryna Saprykina, deputy director for public relations and mass media at the Foxtrot Group Liudmyla Lozova, Head of the Krona Foundation Olena Matsibokh, United States Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine President Jorge Zukoski, and head of the For Ukraine Foundation Nataliya Bielova. The meeting discussed philanthropic approaches, increasing the business’s possibilities in supporting good deeds, methods of corporative philanthropy, and ways to use business approach as an investment into social changes.
