
Charitable Auction of Hope Held in Lviv

December 26, 2007, students of the Lviv Banking University at the National Bank of Ukraine held the second beneficial Auction of Hope, featuring a lot from Head of the Supervisory Board of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund Kateryna Yushchenko, the Ukraine and Ukrainians book with a compliment slip.
Other lots were donated by Ukrainian politicians, sports and show business stars. There were a mid-19th century icon of Jesus the Almighty donated by Head of the Verkhovna Rada Arseniy Yatseniuk, Nina Matvienko’s unique book, musical albums, and family photos, Vladyslav Vashchuk’s jersey, and Savik Shuster’s ashtray. Among the donators also were Volodymyr Hryshko, Roksolana Bohutska, Yuri Andrukhovych, Viktoriya Protsiv, and Yevheniya Hapchynska. The opening price of the lots was UAH 1,000.
The students have raised UAH 62,100 in the auction, to be channeled for purchasing a newborns incubator for the Lviv Maternity Hospital No. 1.
Rector of the Banking University at the National Bank of Ukraine Tamara Smovzhenko said that it was not the lots that counted at the auction but the intent to popularize philanthropy among young people and instilling social responsibility in these prosperous people-to-be. She promised to help students find the deficient sum to purchase a high-end incubator which costs almost UAH 75,000.
The first Auction of Hope was held in Lviv December 26, 2006. The students raised almost UIAH 50,000 and purchased a computer class for the Horodok Social Rehabilitation School.
