
Kateryna Yushchenko Visits Netherlands Institute of International Relations Clingendael in The Hague

December 9, 2007, Head of the Supervisory Board of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund Kateryna Yushchenko visited the Institute of International Relations Clingendael in The Hague. Among other participants of the event were Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Netherlands Oleksandr Kupchyshyn and Ukraine 3000 Fund members.
Mrs. Kateryna met with the Institute’s Director, Prof. Jaap de Zwaan, and the faculty. They discussed the cooperation between Clingendael and Ukrainian universities, which started in 1992. Prof. Jaap de Zwaan told the Ukrainian guests about the University’s educational programs, partly, those participated by Ukrainian students. He said that during the period of their cooperation, over 40 professionals from Ukraine had visited Clingendael.
Mrs. Yushchenko thanked Clingendael management and faculty for their longstanding cooperation with Ukraine and voiced her approval of the Institute’s policy aimed at supporting Ukraine’s European aspirations. In their turn, the Clingendael representatives expressed their desire to expand the list of Ukrainian educational institutions working with the Institute.
Mrs. Kateryna also was given a tour of the Clingendael premises.
The Institute of International Relations Clingendael is one of the most competent scientific research institutes in the international relations area in the Netherlands. The major areas of its research are European integration, trans-Atlantic relations, international security, international organizations, etc. The Institute’s priority programs are diplomatic relations, European studies, security, and energy.
In June 2006 a Ukraine- the Netherlands round table was held at the Institute, discussing the bilateral cooperation between the two countries, Ukraine’s cooperation with the European Union, in part, within the framework of the European Neighborhood Policy, Ukraine’s European priorities after the election, the possibilities of RU further expansion, and prospects for Ukraine’s membership in the European Union.
Mrs. Kateryna Yushchenko and Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund members are staying in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, for a two-days working visit. Its major goal was attending the final part of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2007 on December 8, 2007.
December 8, Mrs. Yushchenko met in Rotterdam with representatives of the Netherlands humanitarian organizations. Kateryna Yushchenko and other Ukraine 3000 Fund members also met with the European Broadcasting Union top management and attended the Junior Eurovision finals. December 9 Mrs. Yushchenko visited Delft.
