
Kateryna Yushchenko Attends the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2007 Finals

December 8, 2007, Head of the Supervisory Board of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund Kateryna Yushchenko took part in the finals of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2007. The event was held at the Ahoj Rotterdam concert hall and was also attended by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Netherlands Oleksandr Kupchyshyn, President of the National Television Company of Ukraine Vitaly Dokalenko, Director General of the Artek International Children’s Center Borys Novozhylov, and Ukraine 3000 Fund representatives. The show was being broadcasted live from Rotterdam by the First National TV Channel, member of the European Broadcasting Union.
Participants from 17 countries of Europe were taking part in the Junior Eurovision finals. This year its theme is Water and slogan, Make a Big Splash! The Ahoj Rotterdam center’s stage was decorated with various water-related elements, and in the end all 17 participants sang together the One World “water anthem.” Ukraine was represented by Ilona Halytska, 11, with the song Lessons in Glamour.
The European Broadcasting Union 2007 international finals are held with the support of UNICEF. All funds, raised during the SMS voting in all countries, will be transferred to the UNICEF account for charitable programs.
The winner of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2007 was Oleksiy Zhygalkovych, 11, from Mensk, Belarus, receiving 137 points for his song, With Friends. Ilona Halytska ranked ninth.
After the event, Mrs. Yushchenko and the Ukrainian delegation talked to Ilona. Mrs. Yushchenko thanked her for the interesting performance.
The Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund, National Television Company of Ukraine and Artek International Children’s Center were co-organizers of the Junior Eurovision 2007 national selection. The national finals took place September 22, 2007, in Artek, preceded by two weeks of rehearsals and educational events prepared by the organizers.
Besides, the NTCU, Ukraine 3000 Fund, and Artek have prepared a joint address to the EBU, proposing to make Artek the site for the Junior Eurovision finals, starting from 2009. The idea was seconded by the National UNESCO Committee of Ukraine. To implement this initiative, Head of the Supervisory Board of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund Kateryna Yushchenko and other Fund members met with the European Broadcasting Union top management.
Mrs. Kateryna Yushchenko and Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund members are staying in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, for a two-days working visit. Its major goal is attending the final part of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2007 on December 8, 2007.
Earlier Mrs. Kateryna met with renowned Ukrainians living in the Netherlands, and representatives of the Netherlands humanitarian organizations. Kateryna Yushchenko and other Ukraine 3000 Fund members also met with the European Broadcasting Union top management.
