Ukraine 3000 Fund Representatives Take Part in the Charitable Ukraine National Program Presentation

October 25, 2007, representatives of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund took part in the presentation of the Charitable Ukraine National Program. Among other participants in the event, hosted by Ukrinform informational agency, were President of the Ukrainian National Committee of the International Chamber of Commerce and Adviser to Vice Prime Minister Volodymyr Shchelkunov, President of the Father’s Home Charitable Fund Oleksandr Chevkin, Conductor with the National Opera of Ukraine and Head of the Kyiv Classic Orchestra Herman Makarenko, and Head of the Board of Directors of the Ukraine 3000 Fund Oleksandr Maksymchuk.
The Charitable Ukraine National Program’s objective is developing the culture of charity in Ukraine. In the words of Mr. Shchelkunov, one of the program’s founders, the idea is not only recreating and adopting the idea of charity, but also radically changing the views of the Ukrainian community, which had always been known for its kind-heartedness toward the poor and deprived. “Charity should be distinguished from sponsorship and philanthropy, since this is the call to each and everyone, raising the national moral culture and a moral code for the new generations,” he said.
The Ukrainian community, torn by political passions and economic problems, isn’t ready so far for consistent and systemic charitable activities. However, we need to form in people an inner urge for charitable actions, Mr. Chevkin, the Charitable Ukraine National Program initiator, is certain. In his view, the state leaders, renowned businesspeople, politicians, well-to-do people are to set an example of charity.
Mr. Maksymchuk expressed support to the Charitable Ukraine National Program on behalf of the Ukraine 3000 Fund. He also shared the Fund’s experience, in part, in Ukraine’s biggest charitable project, the Children’s Hospital of the Future.
Organizers of the Charitable Ukraine Program said that the concept had already been supported by the Administration of the President of Ukraine, Cabinet of Ministers, a number of ministries, oblast and city state administrations. To promote the program, the suggest to establish a state holiday on November 17, the Day of Charity, and pronounce year 2008 the Year of Charity.
In course of the event, Messrs. Maksymchuk and Chevkin signed a Memorandum on Cooperation between their two organizations.
