
Mrs. Kateryna Yushchenko Unveils the Ukrainian Language Chair at the Shanghai Foreign Relations University

October 5, 2007, Head of the Supervisory Board of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund Kateryna Yushchenko unveiled the Ukrainian Language Chair at the Shanghai Foreign Relations University.
Among the participants in the ceremony were the University faculty members, future Ukrainian language students, representatives of the Ukrainian Embassy to China, the General Consulate of Ukraine in Shanghai, and Ukraine 3000 Fund.
Addressing the audience, Mrs. Yushchenko said she was pleased an honored to unveil a Ukrainian language chair in the faraway China. “Being in China on a visit as a guest at the Special Olympics, I can see the huge potential of the Ukrainian-Chinese relations in the areas of culture, education, economy, etc.,” she said. “I hope that these students will form the critical mass to fill these relations with new content and dynamics.”
On behalf of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund, Mrs. Yushchenko presented to the Chair a library in Ukrainian, containing books on history, culture, and Ukrainian traditions.
In honor of the distinguished guest, the students sang Ukrainian songs and recited Vasyl Symonenko’s “You Know You’re a Man” and Volodymyr Sosiura’s “Love Ukraine” in Ukrainian.
Mrs. Kateryna Yushchenko also had a brief meeting with the Shanghai Foreign Relations University leaders. She thanked them for their attention and celebration of the Ukrainian language and invited them to visit Ukraine.
The Shanghai Foreign Relations University is one of the leading China’s universities. It was founded in 1919 under the name of Shanghai Russian Language College. The University maintains partner relations and carries out professional and cultural exchange with many foreign universities, in part, the Kyiv Shevchenko National University.
The Ukrainian language will be thirteenth on the list of foreign languages taught at the Shanghai Foreign Relations University. It will be taught by Prof. Valentyna Liashchenko, who in 2004 was awarded with Shanghai highest award, the Shanghai Magnolia, as the best foreign teacher.
Mrs. Yushchenko and Ukraine 3000 Fund representatives are staying in China to support the athletes of the Ukrainian national team at the Special Olympics 2007, to be held October 2-11 in Shanghai.
October 2, 2007, Mrs. Yushchenko met with President of the People's Republic of China Hu Jintao, Head of the China Disabled Persons Federation Den Pufan, and took part in the Special Olympics opening ceremony.
October 3, Mrs. Yushchenko and Ukraine 3000 Fund representatives took part in the the Global Policy Summit on the Well-being of People with Intellectual Disabilities and visited Ukrainian artist Kateryna Hutnikova-Mykhaylova’s one-woman show.
October 4, Mrs. Yushchenko met with Sheng Changli, Vice Governor of Zhejiang province.
