
Kateryna Yushchenko Takes Part in the Global Policy Summit on the Well-being of People with Intellectual Disabilities

October 3, 2007, Head of the Supervisory Board of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund Kateryna Yushchenko took part in the Global Policy Summit on the Well-being of People with Intellectual Disabilities held in Shanghai, China.
This event was part of the agenda of the Special Summer Olympics 2007.
Among the participants and honorary guests of the summit are President Ólaf Grímsson of Iceland, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo of Philippines, Chairman of Special Olympics International Timothy Shriver, Head of the China Disabled Persons Federation Den Pufan, wife of the President of Poland Maria Kaczynski, Governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger, former President of Switzerland Adolf Ogi, representatives of the Chinese government and delegations of the countries participating in the Olympics. Ukraine is also represented by President of the Special Olympics Serhiy Komisarenko and Ukraine 3000 Fund representatives.
The goal of the summit is discuss successes and problems in changing the attitude toward people with intellectual disabilities, as well as present new data and researches proving the change in the status of people with intellectual disabilities in the world.
The summit will take place October 3, 2007. It is planned to culminate into adopting a a Declaration of Support, urging to improve the attitude toward people with intellectual disabilities.
Mrs. Yushchenko and Ukraine 3000 Fund representatives are staying in China to support the athletes of the Ukrainian national team at the Special Olympics 2007, to be held October 2-11 in Shanghai. A series of events with the participation of Mrs. Yushchenko is on the agenda of the trip, in part, unveiling the Ukrainian Language Chair at the Shanghai University.
October 2, 2007, Mrs. Yushchenko met with President of the People's Republic of China Hu Jintao, Head of the China Disabled Persons Federation Den Pufan, and took part in the Special Olympics opening ceremony.
