
Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund Representatives Take Part in the Opening Ceremony of the Special Summer Olympics 2007

October 2, 2007, Head of the Supervisory Board of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund Kateryna Yushchenko and Fund representatives attended the opening ceremony of the Special Summer Olympics 2007.
Ukraine is represented by 50 athletes top compete in swimming, athletics, soccer, basketball, badminton, etc.
Mrs. Yushchenko is supporting the Ukrainian team at the Special Olympics as a guest of honor.
The Special Olympics are the world’s biggest program for all-the-year-round trainings and competitions for people with intellectual disabilities. Its goal is involving more individuals with intellectual disabilities and various levels of abilities into sports.
The Special Olympics 2007, to be held October 2-11 in Shanghai, China, promises to become the biggest and most outstanding event in the history of the Special Olympics. It will involve over 7,000 athletes from 169 countries, competing in 24 Olympics sports, supported by 3,500 official Special Olympics representatives and 40,000 volunteers. Hundreds of Guests of Honor, representing politics, sports, arts, and business, along with journalists from every continent, will join in the event.
The Special Olympics of Ukraine were officially founded in March 2002, although Ukrainian athletes with intellectual disabilities have been taking part in the Special Olympics and World Games since 1995. Today the Special Olympics of Ukraine are an all-Ukrainian organization involving over 12,000 athletes in 18 Ukraine’s regions.
