
Mrs. Kateryna Yushchenko Visits Catholic University in Lviv

September 13, 2007, Head of the Supervisory Board of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund Kateryna Yushchenko visited the Ukrainian Catholic University in Lviv.
Among other participants of the event were Head of the Lviv Oblast State Administration Petro Oliynyk, Head of the Lviv Oblast Council Myroslav Senyk, Rector of the Ukrainian Catholic University Father Borys Gudziak, and representatives of the local authorities and Ukraine 3000 Fund.
Accompanied by Father Borys Gudziak, the guests took a tour of the University. Mrs. Kateryna held a brief meeting with the rectors, faculty and staff members. She also met with the student self-government leaders who presented their social projects.
On behalf of the Ukraine 3000 Fund, Mrs. Kateryna presented the Ukrainian Catholic University with a multimedia center and the Ukraine, Cossack State book. Besides, she donated a UAH 25,000 certificate for implementing the University’s social programs. Mrs. Yushchenko offered her greetings on the occasion of the 60th birthday of a renowned faculty member, President of the Ecumenical Studies Institute Father Dr. Ivan Datsko.
The Ukrainian Catholic University is a research and training institution inheriting and continuing the research of the Greek Catholic Theological Academy created in 1928-1929 in Lviv by Metropolitan Andriy Sheptytsky. This is the first catholic university in the territory of the former Soviet Union and the first founded by Eastern Catholic Church. The University has over 300 full time students. 40 of the 150 professors have academic degrees. Every year around 40 visiting professors come to the UCU from Western Europe, Australia, the US and Canada.
Mrs. Kateryna Yushchenko and members of the Ukraine 3000 Fund are staying in Lviv for a one-day working trip. Its agenda also envisages taking part in the Fourteenth Book Publishers’ Forum and visiting the Lviv City Communal Children’s Hospital.
