
Kateryna Yushchenko Takes Part in the Seventeenth Economic Forum oin Krynica

September 6, 2007, Head of the Supervisory Board of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund Kateryna Yushchenko took part in the Seventeenth Economic Forum in Krynica.
Mrs. Yushchenko took part in the Corporate Social Responsibility. Global Aspect panel. It was initiated by Ukraine 3000 Fund in order to discuss corporate responsibilty and its implementation in various countries. The panel was open to all willing to attend.
In her speech Mrs. Kateryna said, in part, that both big transnational companies and small biusinesses in Ukraine were reviewing their interaction with the society, forming new strategies aimed at meeting the expectations and requirements of their customers, partnetrs, and society. "I am very pleased that we started this important discussion. Today in Ukraine we see many examples of how business changes its attitude toward socially significant functions," she said.
Mrs. Kateryna also said that it was important for Ukraine to find answers to the following questions: What are the society's economic, legal, and ethical expectations? Who, in the view of the Ukrainian community, should solve urgent social problems - business, state, or the society? If the former, is it able to do this?
Mrs Yushchenko emphasized that the state should create necessary conditions so that business could assume various socially responsible functions. She added that suitable distribution of responsibilities and duties between business, state and community was an urgent problem and challenge for many countries in Eastern Europe.
In the end of her speech, Mrs. Kateryna thanked the participants of the panel and expressed her hope that the discussion would become truly international. She called on the Forum participants to continue it in Ukraine.
The 17th Economic Forum in Krynica is held from September 5 till 8. It’s Central and Eestern Europe’s biggest event in its kind. Respectable publications like Le Monde and Le Soir called it Eastern Davoc. Krynica has become a hotspot on the world map, maybe the only one, where East meets West on such scale.
This year the topic of the Forum is Europe – Crisis, Changes or Chance? Around 3,000 people participate in its work, including 1800 guests, representing around 60 countries of Europe, America, and Asia. Among them are renowned politicians, state and parliamentary delegations, experts, research institutes’ heads, businesspeople, economic and non-governmental organizations.
The XVII Forum’s program includes 130 debates divided into following thematic fields:
- Business and Management
- Macroeconomics
- New Economy
- Science and Culture
- Fuels and Energy
- International Affairs and Security
- EU and its neighbours
- Regions
- Society
Apart from debates, the Forum's agenda will provide cultural and other events.
At the final meeting awards of the Economic Forum will be presented. The Forum's Program Council recognizes persons, companies and in four categories: Man of Central and Eastern Europe, New Culture of New Europe, Non - Governmental Organization of Central and Eastern Europe, and Company of Central and Eastern Europe.
The work of the seminars will be simultaneously translated into English, Russian, and Polish. Part of the seminars will be broadcasted in the Internet in real time.
Simultaneously with the Economic Forum, the Young Leaders’ Economic Forum is being held.
