
Molodist International Film Festival Presented in Cannes

May 17, 2007, a presentation of the International Molodist Film Festival, held in Ukraine since 1961, took place. This was the start of a long-term program to present the Ukrainian film industry to the world.
The presentation was held on the second day of the Sixtieth Cannes International Film Festival. Films representing Ukraine in Cannes were demonstrated, in part, Two in One (directed by Kira Muratova), The Chosen (Roman Balayan), Aurora (Oksana Bayrak), and By the River (Yeva Neiman).
Cinematographers from Ukraine, Russia, France, Spain, Serbia, Poland, Lithuania, Romania, Great Britain, and Estonia took part in the said event.
The Molodist Festival presentation opened with speeches by Head of the Supervisory Board of the Ukraine 3000 Charitable Fund Kateryna Yushchenko and Director General of the Molodist Festival Andriy Khalpakhchi.
In her speech, Mrs. Kateryna delivered to the audience greetings from Honorary President of the Molodist Festival Viktor Yushchenko and thanked them for their attention to Ukrainian cinema. Mrs. Yushchenko said that, in addition to its old traditions, famous names, and attainments, the Ukrainian film industry possessed great potential and prospects, especially with all the new talented directors, actors, and cinematographers who had lately joined the industry.
The Ukraine 3000 Charitable Fund has been the Molodist’s partner for many years. In 2003 it founded a special award, For Developing the National Film Industry. The winners of this award were Roman Balayan, Kira Muratova, Larysa Kadochnykova, and Anatoly Kokush.
