First Lady founds medical center

16 March 2006 17:05

Kateryna Yushchenko, Head of the Supervisory Council of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Foundation, Vyacheslav Kyrylenko, Humanitarian Premier, Yuriy Polyachenko, Health Minister, and Ihor Tarasyuk, Head of the State Affairs Administration, placed a capsule into the foundation stone of a Center for Maternal and Child Health, which is going to be built at the Feofania Clinic.

“Working in the foundation and often visiting hospitals in Kyiv and all around the country, we understand that the problem of children’s health care must be resolved systematically. We also understand that the best state health program cannot resolve all problems. No country in the world, however rich it is, fully funds its medical sector. The modern medical system is impossible without private donations made by companies, philanthropists, NGOs and average donors that want to do something to save lives of children. Today we are taking the first step in making our biggest dream to build Europe’s best hospital for children come true,” Mrs. Yushchenko said in her speech.

Ukraine 3000 sealed an agreement and a protocol of intentions with Genesis Eurasia Corporation, an American company with headquarters in Houston, Texas. Under the terms of the agreement, Ukraine 3000 will establish a charitable foundation and Genesis will construct the center. Ukraine 3000 also signed an agreement and a protocol of intentions with Transbank.

The foundation plans to build a multidirectional medical facility to help children and pregnant women, develop pediatric aid and surgically treat pathologies still considered to be inoperable in our country. It will have three hundred beds and employ Ukraine’s best specialists.
